John and Margaret Springett

Stars of big screen on show at Leypark Court

The Springetts run a series of very popular ‘Movie and Music Afternoons’ for tenants at Leypark Court and, in recognition of their efforts, were even nominated in the ‘People’s Choice’ category at the Beacon Awards.

The couple have been running the events for a few years, arranging a vote to let residents decide what they’d like to watch, and accumulating quite a sizeable library over the years.

Such activities have brought different groups of people at their sheltered housing block together, with it being particularly invaluable and enjoyable for those in the early stages of dementia, as it’s a fun activity that doesn’t involve the stress of having to leave home.

Charlotte Schraibman, Housing With Support manager, said: “These afternoons involve quite a lot of work for the couple, consulting residents on what they’d like to view each session and then displaying the schedule and arranging refreshments. The residents have particularly enjoyed singing along to Andre Rieu!”
